HBO shares ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 teaser trailer

House of the Dragon HBO TV series on TV with remote control in hand. Focuse on the tv screen. Story takes place 300 years before events portrayed in Game of Thrones

HBO has unveiled an early look at House of the Dragon Season 3, offering a glimpse of the high-stakes conflict set to intensify when the series returns June 21. The teaser, featuring Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith, sets a grim tone as the battle for power spirals toward chaos.

Adapted from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the prequel takes place roughly two centuries before ‘Game of Thrones,’ chronicling the brutal Targaryen civil war known as the “Dance of the Dragons.” Season 3 pushes that conflict further than ever, shifting from political maneuvering into full-scale warfare.

The preview centers on Rhaenyra Targaryen’s continued bid for the Iron Throne, supported by her husband Daemon. Early in the footage, he tells her, “You now have the power no man has ever wielded. You will have an empire unassailable, Rhaenyra. And our children will rule it forever and a day.” As her claim strengthens, tensions rise across the realm, with Alicent Hightower advising her son on the burdens of rule: “You will do things that your heart would have recoiled from before you came to the throne.”

Meanwhile, Aegon II—now displaced—plots revenge after fleeing to Braavos with Larys. His fury is clear as he declares, “I’m going to kill my brother,” referring to Aemond, before adding, “Or die in the attempt.” The teaser closes with Rhaenyra’s chilling assertion: “There will be no doubt who the gods have chosen to rule.”

With a returning cast that includes Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, and others, Season 3 is expected to deliver a darker, more explosive chapter as rival factions clash for control of the realm.
